The fight is heating up against Bill C-36, also known as the proposed Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. If passed, the federal bill would put stricter controls on natural health products.

“In Bill C-36, there is a clause that talks about how we are subject to the dictates of foreign governments, which means that we will have to submit to the European Union standards or the United States standards,” said Rose Stevens of the Natural Health Products Protection Association.

Stevens believes the federal government wants to take away the public’s right to choose natural health products. That’s why she’s on a mission to collect signatures for a petition against Bill C-36.

The federal government says the bill is designed to regulate natural health products to ensure they are safe for Canadians.

Stevens also endorses a documentary entitled “A Question of Sovereignty”. The film claims the Canadian government is caving in to multi-national companies, some of which may want to gain control of the health food industry.
